Who's Next? Race Rocks Update

Peregrine, the Catalina 38 sailed by Steve Smolinske and crew out of Seattle YC, are approaching Race Rocks at boat speeds nearing 6 knots.
Peregrine is sailing in PHRF Class C.
Avalon, another PHRF Class C boat, hasn't updated its tracker since 4:42 am; again, this race is closer than it may look.

Turnagain, Passpartout and Ion finish

Turnagain 9:31:21, Passpartout 9:37:32 and Ion 9:53:45 have crossed the finish line.




Heading For The Barn: Next Boats To Finish Are Siren & Velocity

Velocity's tracker is now updated; they are ahead of Siren approaching the finish line doing 6.9 knots of boat speed.

Siren is now past Race Rocks, sailing northeasterly to the finish at 6.4 knots of boat speed with WSW winds @ 19 knots.

Wave Dancer Coming On Strong

Wave Dancer (PHRF Class B) has been following a pack of boats most of the race; now, Wave Dancer is moving up from behind doing 7.3 knots of boat speed at 9:30 am, and pushing ever closer to the pack, which is now averaging boat speeds in the 1-5 knot range...we'll see if Wave Dancer's luck can last...

Wyeast is back on the tracker!

Wyeast, the Cascade 36 out of Portland sailed by Frank Colistro and crew had been not reporting on the tracker until recently; happy to report they appear to be just south of Sheringham Point in the middle of the Strait heading NE at 4 knots, just ahead of the pack that includes Kaos, Avalon, Aja, Sol Pacifico, Shamrock, Katzenjammer & Wave Dancer.

Hole @ Shipwreck Point?

Boat speeds appear to have dramatically reduced for the pack of boats just east of Neah Bay off of Shipwreck Point nearing Clallam Bay.

Aja is currently showing 3.7 knots of boat speed.
Kaos is currently showing 4 knots of boat speed.
Shamrock is currently showing 3.3 knots of boat speed.
Sol Pacifico is currently showing 2.1 knots of boat speed.

Katzenjammer, sailing North of the pack off of Shipwreck Point, is currently moving along at 5.5 knots... may do an end around...

Race Rocks Update

Siren, the Beneteau 36.7 sailed by Carl & Nicole Sirois of Portland, is approaching the northerly turn at Race Rocks.
Winds at Race Rocks are currently reported to be 22 knots from the WSW, Siren is currently registering boat speeds of 8.9 knots heading on an easterly course. Go Carl & Nicole!

Velocity's race tracker has not updated since just after 8 am this morning, chances are they are duking it out with Siren as they have been doing all the way down the Strait...

Santa Cruz 27 Are Coming In

Panama Red arrived at 7:53:15 then followed by two of the Santa Cruz 27 contestants, Blade Runner 7:58:58 and Kokopelli 8:18:51.


SC 27 Kokopelli Update (now aka Shadow Dancer!)

Kokopelli's tracker had not been reporting their position since yesterday afternoon, turns out they were shadowing Blade Runner, the other SC 27, all the way.

According to finish line reports, Koko finished the race in just a little more than 24 hours... edged out by Blade Runner, who finished just before 8 am this morning.

The other SC 27, Kaos, is still on the course proceeding towards the finish in a pack of boats east of Neah Bay that includes Avalon, Shamrock, Sol Pacifico and Aja.

Katzenjammer is taking a northerly route in the Strait, and Wave Dancer is close behind the pack.
Winds at Neah Bay currently reporting WSW at 16 knots gusting to 20.

Passepartout & ION Passing Race Rocks

Winds are reported currently to be westerly at 16-18 knots, gusting to over 20 knots at Race Rocks.

Last recorded boat speed on Passepartout, the Stephens 47 in PHRF Class C, was 9.2 knots @ 8:23 this morning.

ION, in PHRF Class B, is blazing through the water at 9.8 knots.

Keep On Truckin, Passepartout... After this race, it may feel like they HAVE been around the world in 80 days.

24 Hours Into the Race Now... CRUISING CLASS UPDATE: You're Never Losin' When You're Cruisin'!

Souffle, the Cal 34 sailed by Phil Lewis and crew from Rose City Yacht Club in Portland, has rounded Cape Flattery and has entered the Strait, they are bringing up the rear of the fleet in style, currently heading NNE at a healthy 5.3 knots of boat speed.

I wonder if the souffle collapses in a gimballed oven in 25 knots of breeze?

Tight Racing for PHRF B Fleet

As of approximately 8 am, 24 hours into the 38th annual Oregon Offshore race, the majority of PHRF B Fleet is tightly grouped in the north Strait passing Sooke Harbour, approaching Race Rocks at nearly 8 knots of boat speed.

Free Bowl of Soup, the J-105 out of Portland, has reportedly finished.

Leading the remaining PHRF B Fleet pack currently is ION, followed closely by Velocity and Siren.
Farther out in the Strait, south of the pack, is Turnagain.

Wave Dancer has entered the Strait and is approaching Neah Bay.

PHRF C Class Coming Down the Strait!

The Cal 40 California Girl has finished. They appear to be the first PHRF Class C boat to finish. A venerable boat, the Cal 40.

Leading the remaining PHRF Class C pack currently is Passepartout, heading towards Race Rocks at 7.8 knots. Peregrine is in the middle of the Strait adjacent to Point No Point with Avalon close behind.

Cool Change did not start.

FINISH LINE 7:30 AM UPDATE: Kinetic & Blade Runner & California Girl Streaking Towards the Finish

Finish times are imminent for these three boats; Blade Runner will be the first confirmed SC 27 to finish.

Blade Runner is doing 7.2 knots, Kinetic is finishing the race reaching speeds in excess of 8 knots.

It appears that all boats in the fleet have now entered the Strait and are proceeding towards the finish line with a robust westerly breeze.

Cantata has retired with a broken rudder and has reached Gray's harbor safely, Cool Change did not start the race. All other boats have finished or are proceeding towards finish now.

Can't wait to hear the stories of the 2014 Oregon Offshore from those who were on board for this year's race...

SC 27 Update: Blade Runner at Race Rocks, Kaos made the turn, Where's Koko?

Blade Runner is now (6:26 am) approaching Race Rocks, must have had a crazy night on these little speedsters... Kaos, the Santa Cruz 27, one of three boats in the fleet, is currently reporting position just off of Neah Bay heading East towards the finish at boat speeds recorded at 7.9 knots at 6:23 am.

Reported position of the Santa Cruz 27 Kokopelli skippered by Eric Collins of Portland is unavailable at this time.

Cantata Retires With a Broken Rudder

I talked with a tired Tom Brownson this morning, he and the crew are fine. Cantata his Ericson 38 not so much, about 7pm last night they part of the rudder and spent the next 10 hours limping back to Gray's Harbor.
