Rage, 2015 First (& Last) to Finish boat, is back for more!

Same fast boat, new owner. This well known Wylie 70, PHRF -63, hailing from Portland, OR, is now owned by David Raney. David is a decorated racer who is excited to get back into the Pacific NW scene starting with Oregon Offshore, followed by Swiftsure and Pacific Cup in 2018. Welcome David! We look forward to seeing you and the Rage.

Turnagain to race fourth Offshore in a row!

Our second official entrant, Turnagain, is a Beneteau Oceanis 50 hailing from Vancouver, BC, skippered by Travis McGregor. Welcome back for your fourth Oregon Offshore race in a row! Turnagain will also be competing in this year's Vic-Maui race. Good luck to ya!

Turnagain's PHRF rating is 99.

First 2016 Oregon Offshore Entrant - Kinetic V

Veteran Oregon Offshore skipper David Sutcliffe is the first to enter this year's race in his new TP52, Kinetic V. This racing machine from Vancouver, BC, rates PHRF -84. We are certain she will be at the head of the pack.

Welcome back David!
Thanks for kicking off the 40th Anniversary in style!

2016 Race Dates Set - May 12-15!

Well, it has been quite some time since you've heard from us, but we've been busy NOT organizing a sailing race. However, the time has come, and we have SET A DATE for the 2016 Oregon Offshore.

May 12-15, 2016

Put it in your calendars, start looking for crew, and check back often for race updates and a notice of race which will be posted early in the new year.

New GoPro Video From the J/42 VELOCITY

Here's a new video from 2nd place (both PHRF A and overall - shortened course) winner VELOCITY.  An intrepid crew member on Tom Keffer's J/42 used a GoPro camera to film their 2015 Oregon Offshore experience.

Watch for an interesting perspective on the sail change procedure starting at 1:58, and we wish we were in on the joke at 2:40.

Next year's theme is "40 for 40"; we're aiming for 40 boats (and more great videos!) for the 40th Oregon Offshore race.  Let's make it happen!

Mea Culpa, Velocity!

Velocity had completed the shortened course and reported a time to the race committee, but her reported time did not make it to the scorer's table.  The CYC Race Committee regrets this error, and would like to recognize the crew of Velocity for their determination in finishing the shortened course.  Per the SI's, Velocity will be awarded 2nd place in PHRF A.  Congratulations, Velocity.

The finish order (overall) for the full course remains:
Rage 1st

The finish order (overall - corrected time) for the shortened course is:
Rage      1st
Velocity  2nd
Evermoore 3rd

Congratulations Rage on 1st to finish, 1st overall (and last to finish)

Light winds on the Washington coast for the extent of the race became an exercise in patience, then ultimately disappointment for many racers, as the time limit made the finish line out of reach.  One boat, Rage, managed to finish the course in the allotted time, and took home a collection of awards for her effort.  In PHRF C, Evermoore showed extreme tenacity, gutting it out to complete the shortened course before the time limit and securing 1st place in her class.

Fleet Awards
Rage         1st to Finish
Rage         1st Overall
Rage         Old Salt (last to finish)

PHRF A (Full Course)
Rage         1st
Anam Cara    DNF
Riva         DNF
Velocity     DNF

PHRF B (Shortened Course to Duntze Rock)
Ion          DNF
Passepartout DNF
Thirsty      DNF
Turnagain    DNF

PHRF C (Shortened Course to Duntze Rock)
Evermoore    1st
Aja          DNF
Cantata      DNF
Cool Change  DNF
Wy'East      DNF

Don't forget... Next year is the 40th Anniversary of the Oregon Offshore. Put it in your calendar, and tell your friends!

Finish Line Closing

I would like to thank my crew of finish line officials: Wayne & Sherrie Mason, Jenn, Keith, & Stuart Swingruber. I'm not sure of the facts, I have had the honor of officiating the finish line of the fastest Offshore in 2014 and the slowest this year. Thank you for having us, Kevin

Evermoore Retired

Skipper Rhys Balmer and the crew of Evermoore have reported their shortened course time and will be in Victoria in 9 hours. Good Race, Evermoore -- our smallest entrant, a Moore 24.

Two More Retire

Turnagain with Skipper Travis McGregor and Aja with Skipper Rich Elstrom both retired from the race this morning and are headed in.

Shortened Course for PHRF B and PHRF C

To be scored on the shortened course, skippers of boats in PHRF B and PHRF C must report their times passing Duntze Rock (as written in the SI's) by phone/text to 503-789-2463, or to Kevin Kahl at the awards ceremony.  Times must be reported within 10 minutes of the shuttle bus arriving at RVYC.

More boats in overnight

Thirsty and Velocity have made it safely into Victoria Harbour. The rest of the fleet should trickle in shortly, hopefully in time for the bus to the BBQ!

Another boat leaves the race

Cool Change under the command of Captain Frank Noragon has decided to leave the race as of 00:45 with calm winds as the reason. Safe travels.

Will Rage be the only finisher? Less than 10 hours of racing left...

Passepartout leaves the race

We received word at 12:00 hours from Captain Pete Shainin that Passepartout has entered the Strait and is under power. We wish the Captain and crew safe travels as they return home.

Well, folks, we have had some withdrawals

  • Thirsty withdrew at 09:00.
  • Wy'East withdrew at 21:16.
  • Velocity withdrew at 21:29.
We still hope we'll see everyone tomorrow at the RVYC.

It's Not Over Yet

Skipper Alan Bergen and his crew have moved Thirsty into the Strait and now have 15 hours to travel the 40 miles to the finish line. Can they do it? Will they make me get out of bed to finish them? Will Velocity challenge them? DON'T GO AWAY! This is going to get interesting before it's over.

Thank You CYC Volunteers

Longtime supporters/members of CYC Portland Jerry Barnes and Elaine Bock helping Rage dock. These two have done so much our club and we would like to say Hip Hip Hooray! to each of you who is helping make this race a success.
